The Unwin Ethos
"There are no problem horses only problem people.
Unhappy animals, like people, don't heal.
Be kind to your horses and livestock, and caring through their injuries and ill health."
My Great Grandfather, Frederick Unwin, followed his family tradition of horsemanship and natural husbandry as a member of the 'Horseman's Society' where he studied anatomy and physiology alongside fellow members, vets and farriers.
As a young man he was a keen point to point rider and champion ploughman (with horses) and became part of the team called upon by the Welbeck stud to maintain the health and stud programme for the renowned racehorse Carbine, who was owned by the Duke of Portland.
Frederick was known for his 'horsey' quotes and these are what I build my horsemanship practices around.
